Lake Forest, Ill. (Aug. 9, 2012)—In less than three seconds, Dave Whitaker can make $10,000 simply by rolling one ball and scoring a strike at Brunswick Zone XL in Homewood, IL.

Whitaker, of Crown Point, Ind., won Brunswick's summer "10,000 Reasons to Bowl with Your BFF" Sweepstakes and the chance at the $10,000 Grand Prize—$1,000 for every pin knocked down in one frame of bowling. 

And, if he doesn't roll a strike on the first ball, there is a second chance at the full $10,000, if Shelley Hermes, his BFF, can pick up the spare. If neither rolls a strike or spare, they'll still receive $1,000 for each pin that does go down.

The big event takes place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Brunswick Zone XL, 3043 W. 183rd St. Homewood.

"Bowling is a great way to spend time with friends and families," said Jim Fox, president, Brunswick Bowling - Retail. "Our sweepstakes gave everyone 10,000 more reasons to come to a Brunswick center this summer and have some fun."

Whitaker appreciates the opportunity. 

"Brunswick has given me the chance of a lifetime, and I'm planning on making the most of it," said Whitaker, who has been practicing ever since he learned he was the winner. "I hope my first ball is perfect, and Shelley doesn't even have to take her ball out of the bag."

There were 70,777 entries for the BFF Sweepstakes, which was held online as well as at all Brunswick bowling centers across the country. Whitaker said he entered on Brunswick's Facebook page every day for three weeks, but was still shocked when he got the call that he was the Grand Prize winner.

"Bowling was one of the few sports I really enjoyed as a kid, and I was in several leagues," he said. "I still bowl occasionally now so when I saw the contest, I had to enter. But I never thought I'd win."

As part of the prize package, Whitaker and Hermes received Brunswick bowling balls, which they plan on using to improve their odds at earning the $10,000 payday. Whitaker will bowl with a 14-pound ball and Hermes picked out an 8-pound ball. The duo has had several weeks to practice with the new balls, preparing for the biggest frame of their lives.

The BFF Sweepstakes Grand Prize frame is open to the public.
